ONE SHOT

We launched in 2000 photonewzealand and quickly became New Zealand's leading stock library agency. In the past 16 years, our company has evolved a lot. Click on each date below to learn more about our company.

1998

CONCEPT OF PHOTONEWZEALAND

After a brief spell living in Colorado, Rob realised that no other NZ photo library was adapting to the internet age, which led to the conception of photonewzealand over a few beers during the mid-late 1990’s. In good Kiwi style, photonewzealand started in a garage in Huntsbury, Christchurch.

1999

FIRST LINES OF CODE

The first code was written and the photonewzealand database designed, parts of which are still in use today.

2000

LAUNCH OF PHOTONEWZEALAND

After months of careful planning and preparation, we finally launched photonewzealand in 2000. Our first sale was made to a Wellington based Web Design company called Shift (it is now known as Pikselin)!

2003

2005

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION & STOCKFOOD

In 2005, we attended our first CEPIC (global image library conference) in Biarritz, France. Travelling there made us realise that we benchmarked incredibly highly against similar sized libraries in other countries. Following the conference, we also became the exclusive NZ agents for the leading food photography stock agency: Stockfood. Learn more about our collections here.

2007

LIVING4MEDIA

2010

2010 CANTERBURY EARTHQUAKE

On 4 September 2010, the first earthquake hit the South Island. Also known as the Darfield earthquake, it caused widespread damage in Christchurch. We were fortunate not to lose access to our offices and servers and were able to minimise interruption to service. Our staff were able to deal with their private matters without fear of losing their jobs.

2011

SECOND EARTHQUAKE & MOVING TO THE CLOUD

A second major earthquake hit the South Island on 22 February 2011, which badly affected the city and led to the deaths of 185 people in Christchurch. Because of this event, we undertook a technology and dependency review and decided to move most of our IT and systems into the cloud. From that moment we've been able to run our business from anywhere... and we've been loving it!

2012

MOVING TO MAPUA & CORBIS

We decided to move our HQ to the Nelson region, primarily for lifestyle reasons. We are now based in a lovely village called Mapua at the doorstep to the Abel Tasman National Park. We also became the exclusive NZ agents for one of the leading commercial and editorial stock photography agencies: Corbis. Learn more about our collections here.
